FlyteComm Unveils Flight
Info for Microsoft .NET Compact Framework
New Toolkit Enables
Developers to Incorporate Real-Time Flight Information into Mobile Applications
for Business Travelers.
Orlando, FL – September 16, 2002. FlyteComm, a leading provider of smart travel solutions, today announced a new toolkit enabling software developers to incorporate real-time flight information into applications for mobile devices, such as Pocket PCs, pagers or cellular phones. Based on the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework, FlyteComm's new Flight Info for Microsoft .NET toolkit provides developers with the tools they need to create applications that will put real-time flight status information into the hands of business travelers. With corporations now spending more than $160 billion annually on air transportation, there is a critical need for accurate and timely information before and during travel.
"The new FlyteComm Flight Info for Microsoft .NET toolkit will be demonstrated for the first time today at the Fawcette VSLive! 2002 Conference in Orlando, Florida. During the conference, Microsoft will demonstrate how developers can quickly and easily incorporate real-time air travel information into new, smart mobile applications.
"In working with FlyteComm, we are offering developers using the .NET Compact Framework an easy way to incorporate valuable information into smart mobile applications," said David Rasmussen, lead product manager for .NET mobile developer technologies in the Developer Platform and Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "Business travelers today require the most up-to-date information, and with FlyteComm's Flight Info for .NET we offer developers the simplest way to integrate this information into the latest mobile devices."
"Travelers today are desperate for accurate information that will make their trip easier," said Maurice Bailey, president and CEO of FlyteComm. "FlyteComm's new Flight Info for .NET toolkit enables developers to easily incorporate our valuable service into new applications that business travelers can access from their PDAs, cell phones or pagers. Because the toolkit is based on a common Microsoft framework, developers can more quickly incorporate air travel information into their latest applications."
FlyteComm's Flight Info for Microsoft .NET toolkit consists of three pieces of technology:
An XML Web service, built on Microsoft's .NET Framework technology, that provides up-to-date flight information from FlyteComm's data center, using data provided by the Flight Info database.
A developer control for the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework that displays flight information on PDA devices, via a Microsoft MapPoint .NET map that shows a flight's current position and estimated arrival time. Developers are able to use the control to incorporate flight information into their own business solutions.
A sample application for real-time graphical flight tracking. The application retrieves flight information using the XML Web service, and uses the Microsoft MapPoint technology to display the position of the en-route flights on a geographical map.
